Fresh from the Mau5TraP: B-B-B-BOOM CRASH OHMYGAWD

Deadmau5, who Helen doesn't like but I like a lot despite how fucking unnecessarily long his buildups are, has a label. That label is called Mau5trap, apparently, and is starting to showcase other folks who sound similar to Deadmau5. The artist that stands out so far (from my brief google procrastination) is Skrillex. I don't like his name or his logo (not pictured, because I don't like it), but I think his new track is very cool. This is Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites:

But I have a confession to make. The reason I like it is not the sub-base dubsteppyness. It's also not the male vocalist who sounds kind of emo/creepy. There is one overarching reason that I like this song that brings me to put it in my "things to play once in a while" bin: the sample. You know the one, the one that really ties the room together.



I'm not sure that it actually came from the N64 kid. In fact, I'm mostly sure that it didn't. But the similarity between the kid and the sample is sufficient for me to run around in a daze tearing shit up like I just got an N64. Wouldn't that be so crazy, if tomorrow morning you had an N64? Like just had one, that worked when you plugged it in and did cool stuff and everything would be great forever? I think it would. And that's why this song isn't just about whatever that creepy male vocalist is saying in that breathy sliced-up techno voice, it's also about the holiday spirit, and about Santa Claus.
