Haha remember when Dubstep was relevant? Like three months ago? That was ridiculous, right? Oh by the way the new Bassnectar album, Divergent Spectrum, is really fucking good.

Saturday: New Rusko

The funny thing about having been to several of these already is that I know he's gonna yell "D.C.! This is the new shit!". This time it really is a new thing - still dubstep obviously, but with more synth and a sweet vocal track over some old school trancey stuffs. I like it.



It's reviewed here by the good folks at RCRD LBL who are probably doing this as their for-real jobs, hence they know what they're talking about, or at least sound like it:

“Everyday” takes the chirping line from the original—“the sun is shining everyday”—as a jumping off point, then quickly veers off the path, sculpting what sounds like a whole new song, but one that is at least in line with Rusko’s sentiment (which is very much wrapped up in the idea of perennial sunshine). In recent interviews, Rusko has admitted he’s abandoned the dark mood and distorted bass characterizing so much of dubstep in favor of more technical songwriting (key changes, bright melodies). Netsky’s makeover of Rusko excavates these latent skills in the young DJ, and the result is joyful.

I'm not sure whether "joyful" is the word I was gonna use, but I'm wicked psyched for the show Saturday at the 930 club.

DUBSTEP IS APPARENTLY MORE MAINSTREAM THAN I THOUGHT

NPR, in general, is one of my favorite things in life. It makes my drive to and from work bearable when I'm not listening to my collection of horrible CDs. It keeps me learnin' now that my brain is slowly going to shit after the academic rigors of college.

But today NPR stepped down to my level. This past week they've been reviewing music from different genres to recap the year. Featured today? MOTHER EFFIN' DUBSTEP.

I'm glad this style is getting press and garnering more fans, but I honestly had no idea how popular it was already. I got an inkling from my music aggregating site (hypem.com) where dubstep remixes have repeatedly showed up in their "Popular" lists. The "Top 10 Torrents Today/Week" on my music torrenting site have shown similar trends. But those didn't paint the whole picture.

How could such horrible music get so much recognition? Now 45 year old upper-middle class white people are going to run out to buy the dubstep's musics. Maybe they will read our blorg?

The last banger I posted (Bass Down Low) I said I wanted to hear at a party. This next one would utterly destroy at a club. The build-ups and bass drops are fucking killer. You seriously can't get more intense for a club setting. Much to my housemate's chagrin I turn the bass all the way up on my sub and the volume all the way up on my speakers and just revel in its perfection. Spencer & Hill and Lucky Date have created a masterpiece of a monster. A++++++ HIGHLY RECCOMMENDED WOULD LISTEN AGAIN

Dear God. Who'd have thought someone would freely and actively choose to do something like this? Nik0 and I went to see Rusko last night, and I am devastated this morning. In a good way. I am also completely dubbed out. So. Many. Bass. Drops. Rusko also taught us that "remixes" of dubstep songs basically entails just adding more bass. As it turns out, I am completely okay with that. NIKO - ADD YOUR REVIEW AFTER THIS SHIT.
