The funny thing about having been to several of these already is that I know he's gonna yell "D.C.! This is the new shit!". This time it really is a new thing - still dubstep obviously, but with more synth and a sweet vocal track over some old school trancey stuffs. I like it.
It's reviewed here by the good folks at RCRD LBL who are probably doing this as their for-real jobs, hence they know what they're talking about, or at least sound like it:
“Everyday” takes the chirping line from the original—“the sun is shining everyday”—as a jumping off point, then quickly veers off the path, sculpting what sounds like a whole new song, but one that is at least in line with Rusko’s sentiment (which is very much wrapped up in the idea of perennial sunshine). In recent interviews, Rusko has admitted he’s abandoned the dark mood and distorted bass characterizing so much of dubstep in favor of more technical songwriting (key changes, bright melodies). Netsky’s makeover of Rusko excavates these latent skills in the young DJ, and the result is joyful.
I'm not sure whether "joyful" is the word I was gonna use, but I'm wicked psyched for the show Saturday at the 930 club.
I mentioned this video to Megan today because she's nuts for the Pokemans, but since my partner in blogging about shitty music is SLACKING OFF by doing "WORK" or something at a "JOB", I decided to put it on the blog. Now, THE HELENATOR is known for being totally obsessed with the Pokemans, so she'll have to provide the nerdier commentary in the, well, in the comments. I'll do a little blurb on the musics though:
I have no idea where these samples come from - presumably some sort of pokemon episode or movie - but they're great. And the drumline and synth that Blue Satellite has fitted to this track are really great. And the filters thrown onto the samples really make them disco-ready. Furthermore, the sweet fluteyness of the track (yes that's a technical term) works really well with this whole springtime thing. This is the kind of music that goes best with some sort of afterschool sports montage. Like two tennis players facing off, the ball racing yellow across the net with each beat and the players leaping into dramatic poses as the music peaks!
Personally though, as a teenager I found Pokemon to be quite childish... in comparison to DragonBall Z!!! To be honest, my resistance to actually watching Pokemon was most likely due to the fact that my parents wouldn't let me have a GameBoy, so I never got hooked on the game. As such, much like Bill Cosby below, I am incapable of understanding the mystery that is the Pokemans.
But Blue Satellite isn't the only DJ posting up anime remixes. Just a few days ago, one of my favorite artists, Go Go Bizkitt!, released this track:
This one's definitely a little more suited for the club, and I really like the transition into the second set of samples with the filter coming up and then the looping and the counter-looping madness. It's a great way to take songs that I probably would've hated and turned them into songs that I like. And I LOVE THE SYNTH that finishes it out. Ultimately, this feels like three different projects that got lumped together. I think Go Go Bizkitt! ought to develop one or two of them independently - they're all really great but they don't necessarily fit together well.
All I post is youtube videos these days because I'm lazy. DID YOU HEAR THAT INTERNET, I AM NEGLECTING YOU!!!!! In this case we have a song that I've got a remix of somewhere but I forget what it's called. The important thing though, is the masterful synth - this is the kind of song that I would very much hope to be the title track of an 80s bargain bin straight-to-VHS release like LASER MISSION. But no! Even better, we get to see it as a homoerotic buddy cop movie!
As a brief epilogue here (by the way, since this is technically a blog, would that make this part the epilog? bah-dum-PSHHH THANKS EVERYONE I'LL BE HERE ALL NIGHT), I'd like to relate a little story of an exchange between two of my friends that happened a few years ago. This has something to do with the post, somehow. It probably involves the wink wink, nudge nudge part, and also that it's spring. Anyway I'll reproduce it below:
